Corporate social responsability

Gattefossé has always combined science and consciousness to innovate in cosmetic and pharmaceutical ingredients. A science of excellence that respects the living world in all its forms. We take particular care to control our operations to limit any impact on the ecosystems surrounding us.

Let's discover together how we are committed to an elevated level of responsible science.

Our actions in figures

Our 2023-2030 key objective

In 2023, we have decided to focus in particular on reducing our overall carbon emissions.

The Science Based Targets initiative has approved our near-term science-based emissions reduction target, which aims to maintain greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris 2015 agreements.

Our overall objective is to reduce our total greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030, compared to 2021 (Scope 1, 2 and 3).

A strategy based on three key pillars

Our Gatt'Up&Act roadmap is the result of a collaborative work by the CSR team and the involvement of all our employees and is structured around 3 key pillars directly linked to our activities and the Group's strategy.

A recognized CSR performance

Driven by a strategy of continuous improvement, we respond to various external evaluations that enable us to develop our action plans.

CSR performance

The EcoVadis assessment methodology, which evaluates tens of thousands of companies, covers the environment, ethics, sustainable sourcing practices, labor and human rights. In 2023, we were awarded the gold medal with an overall score of 75/100, 21 points higher than our first assessment in 2017. This confirms our determination to maintain and develop our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.

Environmental Management System

In 2021, our main production site in Saint-Priest (France) obtained ISO 14001: 2015 certification. This certificate has been validated from the first audit by the certification body SGS. Our Environmental Management System aims to continually improve our performance through more rational use of resources and waste reduction with a continuous improvement process.

Responsible palm oil

Our manufacturing sites in Saint-Priest (France) and Singapore are RSPO-certified. All new personal care ingredients using palm oil or palm oil derivatives must be RSPO-certified (minimum Mass Balance). We are also a member of the ASD (Action for Sustainable Derivatives) collective, which aims to transform the palm oil derivatives supply chain by increasing transparency, monitoring risks, engaging the sector and generating on-the-ground impacts for communities. In 2022, we were able to trace back 95% of our supply chains to the mills and 56% to the plantations.

Our carbon reduction targets validated

Our carbon reduction targets are based on climate science and approved by the SBTi (Science Based Targets Initiative). This initiative enables companies to set and validate a carbon trajectory compatible with the 2015 Paris Agreements. This means that we are committed to reducing our direct greenhouse gas emissions (scopes 1, 2) by 42%, and our indirect emissions (scope 3) by 25% by 2030, compared with 2021. To complete, the management of our carbon emissions at the Saint-Priest site has once again been validated by the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), and Gattefossé has been awarded a grade of B (versus B- in 2021).

Eco-responsible ingredients

ERI 360° label (Eco Responsible Ingredient) is a French label co-created by cosmetics industry players, including Gattefossé, and developed by Innov'Alliance and a panel of scientific experts. It is based on an analysis grid of over 100 indicators, enabling us to assess the degree of responsibility of the entire value chain of our products and to measure their ethical, social and environmental performance, from harvesting to the factory gate. Five of our personal care ingredients have already received this accreditation.

This label is a precious tool for our R&D teams, allowing them to carry out a self-diagnosis during the research phases, in order to improve the eco-design of future products and strengthen the sustainability of our raw materials.
