Adjusting consistency of topical dosage forms
Besides consistency, thickeners contribute to the stability of formulations, specially at high temperatures. A high melting point lipophilic glyceride can be added to partially recrystallize in the oil droplets thereby increasing viscosity. Moreover, lipid-based thickeners are inert and compatible with a wide range of drugs and excipients. Thickeners, a matter of melting point
A wide range of semi-solid and solid glycerides with low to high melting points is offered to answer all the needs of consistency adjustments for topical dosage forms.
Note that the combination Compritol® 888 Pellets, Geleol™ Mono and Diglycerides NF and hydrogenated castor oil in a ratio 2:2:1 constitute an acknowledged multi-component gelling system bringing consistency and stability to topical dosage forms.
A liquid oil-stabilizing agent is also available to texturize the oily phase.

Emulfree® Duo: an oil-stabilizing agent
Bi-gel is an innovative pharmaceutical dosage form, consisting of an intimate mixture of oily and aqueous gels and providing many benefits.
Patients will appreciate the nice cooling and moisturizing effects, and the spreadability of the bi-gel, while formulators will consider its skin penetration potential and versatility of use with many drugs.
Emulfree® Duo is a ready to use system, designed to stabilize the oil phase within the bi-gel, by ensuring a fine and homogeneous dispersion in the aqueous phase.
